Hi Everyone,
Doug called me this morning to ask me to pass on this information concerning the events that led to Damian's death.
 
Evidently some spots(growths) were noted on Damian's lungs even when he was in the womb.  The doctor said this was not unusual and that they usually clear up.  They would check again a few months after birth and, if needed, they would surgically remove them at 5 months.  
 
When they checked him again, they found that they had grown and that one had a large blood vessel running to it, so they knew they would have to remove the growths.  They thought that they might have to totally remove one lower lobe.  The surgery went well and all the growths were removed without having to remove a lobe.  The doctor put two clamps on the blood vessel when normally only one is required.  A tube was inserted into the chest cavity to drain fluid.  
 
Damian was awake with Veronica (mother) when blood started draining out of the tube.  Damian was rushed back into surgery.  Within 30 seconds he had lost all of his blood.  They gave him a transfusion but could not resuscitate him.
 
Memorial services are being planned for early next week in El Centro.  I will pass along any more info that I get.
