It has become increasingly clear that I needed some way to make it easier for
others to work on the website. To that end, I installed some new software
that will make it possible for other people to upload photos.
Please take a look at the "Gallery" by going to
http://righetti72.com/gallery/. Pictures are organized into albums and each
album can contain sub-albums. The first picture in an album acts as the album
cover.
There are a number of advantages to this approach:
1. You don't need to use FTP to upload. FTP is kind of a PITA techy thing
that is a big barrier to doing web sites. Instead, through a web page, you
just point to the files on your PC that you want to upload.
2. You don't need to update the home page each time a new album is created.
3. The security is flexible. For example, even though I created an album,
somebody else could change the captions.
4. The captions are flexible as you can embed HTML "tags" in the caption to
improve the display. For example, I put <BR><BR> in the captions on the "not
attending" sub-album so that there is a blank line between the caption and the
file name.
It is a very generic look right now but I'm reading up on ways to make it look
more specific to our site.
Please let me know if you are interested in being able to create albums or do
captioning.
